How much does a stairlift cost?
A stairlift can take away the uncertainty of using the stairs and make it possible to continue living in your own home. However, many people don’t know what stairlift costs in Germany really look like, or how much they may actually pay after grants or subsidies are applied.
On this page, you’ll find a clear, compact overview of
- the main price ranges on the German market
- Garaventa Lift’s indicative price ranges
- grants from the long-term care insurance fund and other funding options
- the differences between buying, renting, and choosing a used system
All prices stated by Garaventa Lift are indicative values and include delivery, installation, warranty, and 19% VAT.
Price range from independent advice portals
According to neutral consumer and advice portals, stairlift costs in Germany for simple seated models often start at around €3,500. Depending on the model, staircase type, and number of floors, prices can rise significantly into the five-figure range. For platform lifts and lifting platforms designed to transport wheelchairs, ranges of roughly €9,000 to €25,000 are often mentioned, while home lifts are generally higher.
These wide price ranges are normal, because each system is planned individually for the specific staircase. A precise price can only be given once a specialist has taken measurements on site. However, indicative values are helpful for initial orientation and for comparing providers.
Stairlift prices at Garaventa Lift
Garaventa Lift works with clear indicative prices in Germany that already include delivery, installation, and warranty. This gives you a realistic picture of your stairlift costs from the start.
| Solution | Guide price |
|---|---|
| Seated stairlift for straight stairs | from 4.500 € |
| Seated stairlift for curved stairs | from 9.900 € |
| Platform lift for straight stairs | from 10.300 € |
| Platform lift for curved stairs | from 16.500 € |
| Vertical lift | from 11.500 € |
| Homelift for a customer provided shaft | from 26.000 € |
| Homelift with shaft | from 32.000 € |
The actual price of your stairlift depends on several factors. Key points include the staircase layout, the number of floors, whether it is installed indoors or outdoors, the features you choose, and any special requirements. However, the table provides a good indication of the typical price range for stairlift solutions from Garaventa Lift in Germany.
Care Insurance Subsidy for Stairlift Costs
A stairlift makes everyday life at home safer and supports home care. For this reason, Germany’s long-term care insurance fund (Pflegekasse) can help cover the purchase. Since 2025, a higher subsidy applies in Germany. If you have a care grade (Pflegegrad) from 1 to 5, you can receive up to €4,180 per person in need of care for measures that improve the home environment. If more than one person with a care grade lives in the same household, the subsidies can be combined. This means up to €16,720 in total is possible, for example in a shared senior living arrangement with four eligible residents.
The process is important. The responsible office is always the Pflegekasse, not the health insurance company (Krankenkasse). You should submit the application before ordering the stairlift. In most cases, you only need a short informal letter, a cost estimate from the provider, and a brief explanation of why the stairlift is necessary. Garaventa Lift provides a clear, easy-to-understand quotation that you can submit directly to the Pflegekasse.
Additional Funding Options for Stairlift Costs in Germany
Depending on the cause and your personal situation, other organisations may also help cover stairlift costs in addition to the long-term care insurance fund (Pflegekasse). Guides often mention, for example, statutory or private accident insurance, the employers’ liability insurance association (Berufsgenossenschaft), the liability insurer of the person responsible for the accident, or in special cases the social welfare office (Sozialamt).
For barrier-free home adaptations, the KfW loan 159 “Age-Appropriate Conversion” (Altersgerecht Umbauen) is another option. This programme can finance measures such as stairlifts at favourable interest rates, up to a defined credit limit. Some German states also offer their own programmes for low-barrier living, which can be applied for through the relevant development banks.
Your Garaventa advisor can point out which options may be worth exploring and how subsidies and loans can be combined. Applications must always be submitted directly to the respective organisations.
